Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS) schools will host Open House for elementary families on Tuesday, July 30, and for middle and high families on Wednesday, July 31, from 3 – 7 p.m. These open houses give families a chance to tour their school, meet teachers and administrators, ask questions and get any needed information. The first day of school for students will be Monday, August 5. GSCS school times will remain the same as last year (elementary: 7:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.; middle: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.; High: 8:45 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.).

GSCS Day One in the District is an initiative designed to welcome our scholars, faculty & staff back to school on Monday, August 5, 2024. Community Partners in Education, residents, volunteers, stakeholders and elected officials are invited to school campuses to welcome back students, parents and staff by opening car doors at carpool lines and waving to bus riders as they are dropped off at bus ramps. If you or your organization is interested in participating in Day One in the District, please sign-up by completing this form: https://forms.gle/2i6ZZub7veN5JvjV7

Pre-planning for GSCS teachers and administrators will be July 24-August 2. The annual Back to School Celebration will be held on Wednesday, July 31, for all GSCS staff. The Celebration will be held at Oak Hill Church with Ken Williams, nationally recognized trainer, speaker, author, coach and consultant in leadership and school culture, as the keynote speaker.

The Back to School section on the district’s website includes helpful resources such as the school calendar, school supply list, registration, transportation and nutrition information, etc. If you have any back-to-school questions, concerns or compliments you can text us at 678-990-9609 anytime to get a prompt response.

All GSCS middle and high schools will continue to implement a clear bookbag policy. The entire bookbag should be transparent, clear plastic or see-through mesh, allowing the contents inside the bookbag to be known. Small purses (that are not clear) are allowed but should be smaller than 5 inches by 9 inches.  Lunch boxes that are not clear are also allowed but should only be used to transport lunch.

Parents or Guardians of students who have moved into Spalding County or moved within Spalding County are required to register for school at Central Registration.  Registration is open now, Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Parent Services Center, 234 E Taylor Street. Parents/guardians can also complete registration online by visiting https://www.gscs.org/o/gscss/page/central-registration.

School Superintendent Dr. Keith Simmons stated, “The Griffin-Spalding County School System is excited about another year. I encourage stakeholders to utilize the resources on our Back-to-School webpage and if you have additional questions please connect with us using our customer service platform Let’s Talk. We look forward to seeing families at Open House on July 30 and 31, and to welcoming students back to school on August 5 for the 2024-25 school year.”
